Shamu miraculously survived another relay strapped on the top of a van. I wonder if he can hold out to next year...

Brooke hates this picture - but it says it all. She had just finished her third leg - and I think she looks great!

I am slowly recovering from my debilitating bout of envy and jealousy, having to listen to all the Hood To Coast stories surrounding me, both at home and at work. It's funny - at 5:30 on the morning of the relay, shortly after Dave & Brooke left, I was getting up to run before work. I got a text on my phone from a colleague who was running, telling me she was sick and couldn't do it - could I possibly run her legs? Wouldn't be a problem, except that the whole reason I wasn't running was because I was working - and it's not like she could have covered for me - she was sick. Anyway - I found 2 friends of mine to run on her team. But it was like salt in the wound. Never again.

It's dropped like 20+ degrees here - came out of the hospital to drizzle and cool weather. But it's supposed to be back up to 85 by Friday. I'm glad, because I plan on a long bike ride on Friday.

Peter's triathlon is on Saturday - I am bummed that I work this weekend, so I can't go out and support him. He's fairly determined to beat my time, which he probably will. Anyway - good luck, Peter!

And it looks like we are doing the Newport, OR marathon in June, if anyone is interested. I think Brooke and Anne are going to also do it. We are working on the relay team for next year. If you are planning on doing it, be aware that the money is due in the Fall - probably by November. We'll keep you posted as we work out the details.

We are off to a wet Vampire Weekend concert - at Edgefield. Hope you are all well - would love to hear some updates...

Monthly Temple Day

So I've heard talk, but maybe it's time we discussed and agreed upon one day a month where the Stinchfields here in the Portland area can gather at the temple for a session. This is my goal from reading President Uchtdorf's home teaching message this month. Me and Anne are pretty flexible for which day of the week works. I would suggest the 2nd Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of each month. My 2 cents is for Tuesday. I know we all can't make every one, so chime in and let us know which day works the best for those with a tighter schedule. I think this is a good time to start with kids going back to school and more normalized schedules returning. So the first one will be September. If we make it a priority then we will schedule around this and it will be a great activity. Of course what time is another question. I think it will have to be no earlier then 7. But chime in on that as well. We can try and meet somewhere for a dessert/bite to eat before or after, but let's figure out the time and day that works first. Let's do it.

Seattle

We took a trip to Seattle this weekend. Dave had an ortho course in Bellevue, so we came along and made a weekend of it. It was beautiful weather. The kids and I hung out during the day, visiting the Space Needle and Seattle Center one day and Pikes Place the next day. We had a really good weekend (even Isaac, despite the standard scowl on his face - for some reason, his smile disappears when you point a camera at him).

The days of summer are ticking away. Much to the kids' chagrin, we are using today to get much-needed haircuts and organize backpacks. And tomorrow we hit Woodburn for school clothes shopping.

This weekend is H2C for Dave & Brooke, and I think Anne, Peter and I are using some of the day to scout out our Urban Relay which is in a few weeks. We need to know the area and public transportation options around Pioneer Square, the transition point for the relay.

Cross Country starts for Isaac today - his coach is new and seems like a great guy - calling frequently to check on Isaac's training, and even inviting Dave and I to participate in some runs with the team. I'm excited for the season to begin.

School starts on Tuesday - and Tuesday night we are taking Taylor to a Vampire Weekend concert at the Edgefield amphitheater. He is so excited - I think he is going to love the experience.

It's been a weird summer for me - it's probably the fact that I was working, though I feel like the kids and I did a lot and had a good summer. I'm already looking forward to next summer, Shasta in particular - thanks, Anne, for spear-heading that.
